(Charlotte Observer) Renee Griffith is back on the campaign trail despite resigning from the Iredell County Board of Commissioners in August after acknowledging she falsified a building inspection form related to her private Christian school in Statesville.
She resigned a day after the all-Republican Iredell County Board of Commissioners voted 4-1 to ask her to step down. Griffith voted against the resolution. Jason Abernethy, chairman of the Iredell County Republican Party, also had called on Griffith to resign.
Griffith’s at-large seat is up for election Nov. 6. Incumbent Ken Robertson, former GOP Commissioner David Boone and Democratic challengers Karen Keaton and Valerie McCrady also are on the ballot for three seats. The top three vote-getters win the seats.
Griffith told the Observer last week that she decided to leave her name on the ballot and is now actively campaigning because she feels voters should decide her fate. She’s posted campaign signs throughout the county.
