(Asheville Citizen Times) Gov. Bev Perdue on Tuesday told North Carolina delegates the election is about going forward instead of backward.

“North Carolina is bouncing back,” she said. “And we are poised toward greatness. The challenge for us in this race, and the challenge for America, is to look to the future.”

Perdue said North Carolina is better off since she took office. The state has added 100,000 jobs she said.

Unemployment, though, remains high at about 9 percent.

But Perdue called the state “red hot” in terms of economic activity.

She urged the delegation to work hard on getting Democratic congressional candidates elected. Some were at the Democratic breakfasts Tuesday morning.

Others, in competitive districts such as the 11th in Western North Carolina, were not.
