(WHKP) Marc Jordan, President and Chief Executive Officer of the North Myrtle Beach South Carolina Chamber Of Commerce, confirmed for WHKP News this week that there are some plans in the works for the Flat Rock Playhouse in the North Myrtle Beach area.

The issue of the local Playhouse using North Myrtle Beach as an additional venue recently came to light after the NC General Assembly, at the urging of State Senator Tom Apocaca of Hendersonville, authorized the Henderson County commissioners to raise the county’s “occupancy”, or hotel and motel room tax, one per cent and earmark the proceeds from that increase for the Flat Rock Playhouse for a period of two years. The issue of local tax money going out of the county, and out of the state, for Playhouse expansion in North Myrtle Beach was raised at a recent county commissioner’s meeting by Commissioner Larry Young, who strongly opposes both the tax increase and earmarking the money for the Playhouse and by Steve Carlisle, a local popular and former actor at the Playhouse who is now a professor of theater at Western Carolina University
